POWDER METALLURGY
It describes part of metallurgy that deals with the manufacture of metallic powders and their further processing. The powder metallurgy production process denotes the mechanical compression of metallic powders in moulding tools or presses and the simultaneous sintering (or subsequent) sintering of the 'green body' at high temperatures or hot rolling to form a block.
The result are sturdy, fine-grained semi-finished or finished products. Together with the valves, they seal the combustion chamber of the cylinder head.
The valve seat insert prevents the valve from being driven or becoming embedded in the cylinder head. It absorbs part of the combustion heat to which the valve is exposed. The valve seat insert gives this heat out to the cylinder head. An optimum material composition for the valve seat inserts must be found in order to satisfy the various loads. Every manufacturer develops its own alloys with the subsequent application in mind. One significant advantage of powder technology is that without considerable additional effort, the materials can be developed very precisely for the subsequent use in combustion engines.
A highly interesting process that will continue to establish innovative products in the 'BLEISTAHL style' on the world market in the future.
